Perkins and Will Dubai – work experience

I have just come back from Dubai, as I was doing work experience with Perkins and Will! I worked with them for two weeks and got to take part and see all the projects they are doing. The company is globally successful so it was such an honor to be able to work with them.

It was interesting to see how world wide companies would still incorporate the cultural ethnicity of Dubai. I was lucky enough to be able to help work on some of there big projects, one being the Dubai Facebook headquarters. Their headquarters are very quirky, colourful, random but with a touch of Arabic culture. They wanted one of there corridors to feel like you’re going through a Souq, so I was given the task to design what this would be like. I began to research about Souqs and paid a close attention to detail. I designed arches that repeated through the corridor with beams to link them all up. My design was submitted to the clint and the feedback was positive, so has been put into progress! I can’t wait to see the end result! Another project I worked closely on was Citi Bank. I researched and chose the furniture for the whole building, which included the cafeteria, offices, lounge area and meeting rooms. I worked on there Furniture specification and furniture allocation on floor layouts and also did a site visit. Some of the softwares I used for these projects were, AutoCad, Photoshop, Indesign and Excel. I also sat in meetings with furniture and carpet company’s to see there new stock or to discuss future orders. They also filmed me to put me on their social media. They’re doing a competition for someone to win the price of doing work experience with them. As I was experiencing what people would be trying to get, I answered some questions to give people an insight as to why they should Apply!
