Wallpaper Project

For my Materials and Textures class at VCU, I had to design two wallpaper designs for my last assignment. One had to be a digital print and the other a hand crafted piece. The idea of the project is to see the disadvantages and advantages of both mediums. We were allowed to use whatever inspires us, as long as we had a repeated pattern.

The background is meant to be representative of the universe, to which I have added a kaleidoscopic view that also captures the human forms in black lines. The notion of human is evoked through the shapes used to display the most characteristic human elements of the face, while colour is used in a mixture of purple, blue, red and white to illustrate the universe. When merged together, both elements create the notion of human consciousness.

Today, numerous people tend to be inclined towards the notion of human consciousness and the universe as an alternative spiritual path to religion (Kalvig, 2017).
